Sunday, Cruddy Sunday (S10, E12-215)

Nonsense like this is why John Madden is retired now.
Plot Summary
On a field trip to the post office, Bart along with the other kids are given undeliverable mail, one per kid.  Bart gets a coupon book, and decides to gift it to Homer for his birthday, which Homer happily accepts.  Homer goes out to spend his coupons happily, but the plan hits a snag when Homer attempts to get a free wheel balancing as crooked auto repairmen con him into buying a new set of tires.  As Homer waits for the 'repairs', another man comes in having been ripped off.  The man, Wally, remembers Homer from a previous pyramid scheme, and the two decide to go off for some drinks.  There, Wally reveals he's a travel agent, and that he has a bus set up to go to Miami for the upcoming Super Bowl between the [Atlanta Falcons] and the [Denver Broncos], which President [Clinton] and his wife [Hillary] will likely be viewing.  Wally enlists Homer's help to fill the bus, in exchange Homer can go down to the Super Bowl with Wally for free.

After quickly gathering a troop of men, Homer along with Bart head for Miami.  As Marge and Lisa have minor fun with a Vincent Price-endorsed egg kit, Homer and the other guys have a bit too much fun on the bus, but it eventually does reach Miami.  After engaging in some of the activities outside the stadium, the guys line up to gain entry to the game.  However, it turns out Wally was again scammed, as the Super Bowl 'tickets' he had acquired were really just crackers.  Desperate, the group tries to rush into the stadium, but are all eventually caught and thrown into the stadium's jail.

With everybody beating up Homer for tricking them, Wally convinces Dolly Parton - who just happened to pass by - to free them.  The group rushes around the stadium aimlessly but eventually come across an unused press box, so they go in and eat themselves stupid.  However, the box's owner - Rupert Murdock - comes in and chases them away.  During this escape, the group tries to head for the field but by now the Super Bowl has ended and they get caught up with the winning team as they head for the locker room to celebrate, so now the group gets to celebrate with them.  In all, everyone had a good time, except John Madden who can't make sense of it all.

Quick Review
This was an okay episode, I guess.  Given it aired after a Super Bowl (as well as the series premiere of Family Guy), it sets itself up to be a grand episode, what with all the guest appearances and Homer going to the Super Bowl and all, but there were a few jokes that came up a bit flat here and there.  The guest appearances were fine for the most part, though Dolly Parton's wasn't particularly great to me, and I'm probably one of a few set of people that found the bits with Vincent Price funny for some reason.  So its not that bad an episode, but its not that great of one, either.

Final Score: 7.7
