The Wife Aquatic (S18, E10-388)

No one outside the military have it harder than ocean fisherman.
Plot Summary
At an open theatre, after the original movie gets ruined, Patty and Selma step up to show some of their old movies.  One such movie chronicles a trip the two, and Marge, had at Barnacle Bay as kids.  Marge becomes awfully nostalgic of the place, so Homer decides to burn the movies onto a DVD.  Later, Homer tries to put the movie onto her iPod, but when that fails, he decides to just take her and the family to Barnacle Bay itself, much to Marge's joy.  However, upon arriving at the island it becomes immediately clear that Marge's favorite place as a little girl has fallen apart drastically and is a complete dump.

They learn that Barnacle Bay's economy was dependant on the "Yum Yum" fish, which I presume was tasty, but it had been over fished and as that resource died out, so did the town.  Marge is left depressed over the decay of Barnacle Bay, but Homer tries his best to remedy matters.  He hires people to fix a carousel Marge loved when she was little, and afterwards lets Marge ride around on it for a time.  Soon, Homer is even able to set up a fireworks show, but accidentally sets the dock - and the carousel - on fire.  To pay for the damages, Homer is forced to go on a boat and repay his debt via fishing.

Confusing his tasks, Homer accidentally beer-batters the fishing hooks, but this turns out to be good as a swarm of Yum Yum fish arrive from out of nowhere to bite, and the boat sees its first real haul of the fish in years.  However, a nasty storm soon approaches, and the fishermen are too interested in getting more fish to escape in time.  They get caught in the storm, and eventually suffer a shipwreck.  Some time later, a funeral is held for the fisherman including Homer and Bart, who had stowed aboard, but it turns out they survived as they were fished up by a Chinese fishing boat (apparently some time after the storm).  Lisa convinces the town not to over fish the Yum Yum again, and they decide to follow her lead... and destroy a forest instead to restore their lost economy.

Quick Review
For some parts of the episode, it seemed like it was trying to tell a grand epic than have any real comedy, and that hurt the episode some.  The episode tried to draw comedy from one of the fishermen, a Portuguese stowaway named Fausto, but none of the efforts really worked.  In all, it makes for another disappointing episode.

Final Score: 6.6
