"Why couldn't this turn out like the Itchy and Mitchy thing", she's probably thinking. |
The bars, baseball fields and bowling alleys are devoid of men on a Tuesday night, and there's a clear reason for that: the "Ultimate Punch, Kick and Choke Championship" or UPKCC for short, has the attention of practically every man and boy in Springfield. The boys in particular try to imitate UPKCC fighters at school, and Marge catches Bart in the middle of one. Outraged that the UPKCC even exists, she gathers other mothers across town and they picket outside of the stadium during its next major event. However, with Homer and Bart getting in despite her attempts to sway them otherwise, Marge decides to take her protests to the next level.
Marge goes into the stadium herself, somehow winding up in the 'septagon' and demands the UPKCC be shut down despite everyone in the stadium booing her. Chet Englebrit, the founder of the league and a former fighter himself, tries to use the opportunity as a promotion. He offers to fight Marge in the septagon himself and if she beats him, he'll close down the league. As Chet mocks Marge during this talk, she angrily accepts the offer, setting up a big fight pretty much everyone expects will not go Marge's way.
To prepare, Marge tries to train from various people across town, but it doesn't seem like much progress is made. Soon, the night of the fight arrives, and Marge gets into the ring, determined to make a difference. Unfortunately, Chet resorts to dirty fighting even though he's fighting freaking Marge of all people, sucker punching her to start the fight. Bart jumps into the septagon to defend his mother, but Chet has no problem beating him up either. Marge recovers from the blow only to see Chet about to whale on her son. Gathering the strength found only within caring mothers, Marge fights back, eventually forcing Chet into submission and, after seemingly being tricked by him again, knocks him out with a well-timed kick. UPKCC has officially folded, men across town get their violence kick by watching drunken bums fight outside and Bart and Lisa has a quick showdown in the septagon, a fight which Lisa quickly wins.
Quick Review
This episode went into a full parody of mixed martial arts, a sport which was still popular just a few years ago. Somehow, this episode ends up better than what I had expected. I mean its still not good, but an episode like this can very easily reach worst of all time territory. Thankfully the episode carries enough humor early on to carry it through the rather unfunny conclusion. Well, I say carry, but obviously it didn't carry it enough to make the episode decent.
Final Score: 6.7
