Homer is tired of Bart's insubordination. Tensions become critical at dinner when Bart refuses to eat his broccoli. Homer doesn't back down, though, and forces a sit-off where he won't leave until Bart eats it, while Bart won't leave until Homer backs off. The sit-off lasts through the next day, during Homer's fantasy football draft in fact. Homer, refusing to lose, has Marge draft for him, which goes poorly as Marge drafts five kickers. Bart misses out on a fight between Nelson and Martin in which Martin ends up winning thanks to self-defense classes, but Bart doesn't back down either. After 48 hours, Lisa tries a peaceful solution by mixing the broccoli into one smoothie and having Bart choose between that and a regular one. Bart, instead, spills both of them on purpose, causing Homer to go off and get into a scuffle with Bart. The chaos leaves Marge with but one course of action: having the two kidnapped and placed upon a father-son relationship building boat.
On the boat, called the Relation Ship, its captain informs the two that they'll fix their relationship through standard sailor work, though Homer quickly succumbs to scurvy. As Homer recovers, Bart quickly learns in the ins and outs of the sailor life, and the captain decides to make Bart a midshipman, essentially Homer's superior. Of course, Homer refuses to follow any of Bart's orders. Bart soon realizes that his disobedience towards Homer in the past and the current reverse situation are one and the same. Looking to reconcile, Bart and the captain find Homer drunk off his ass. The captain, a recovering alcohol, succumbs as well and the two are left inebriated in front of the rest of the crew.
Meanwhile, Marge starts getting messages from Homer's fantasy league, all of which is trash talk over how bad his (well, Marge's) team (and the sheer number makes it seem like Homer is in, what, a 20-team league?). She even gets trash texts during church, oh no! After consulting with her sisters, Marge decides that the only way to shut these people up is to actually win a game with her roster. After getting a waiver to allow her to start all of her kickers, as well as some minor research by watching pro football players deal with their demanding wives, Marge then gets some luck with some heavy trade winds which helps her kickers get her massive points. All those factors combined allow her to steamroll over 12-time defending league champion Moe, and somehow the story is now resolved?
Those same winds cause havoc on the Relation Ship, made worse by the captain too drunk to properly do anything. As the highest-remaining ranked officer, Bart tries to take control of the ship, but Homer remains defiant. In a show of understanding, Bart eats some broccoli in front of over, indicating that their feud is both pointless, and over. Homer understands and then readily becomes Bart's subordinate, and the two along with the rest of the crew gets the ship safely back onshore. The Simpson men reunite with their family, but when the old Sea Captain tries to complain to them about his lack of involvement in the nautical adventure, they quickly - and fearfully - escape his presence.
Quick Review
Well, this ended up as an alright episode. The fantasy football sideplot had promise, but it was mostly a waste of time, though it didn't take up that much time, thankfully. The standoff between Homer and Bart at the beginning was the best of the episode, though the parts in the ship with its captain had its moments and the Sea Captain cameo at the end was pretty good, too. Its about as good an episode as you can expect nowadays.
Final Score: 7.3
