"Feels like I'm wearing nothing at all - nothing at all - nothing at all!" |
The Simpsons go skiing, and while Homer and the kids have lots of fun on the slopes, Marge isn't having any of that and relaxes at the resort the entire day. However, a nearby clock falls off a wall and lands right on Marge's leg, breaking it. At the hospital, its learned that Marge will have to stay in the hospital until her leg has healed. Lisa decides to lead the family in her stead, though Marge is quick to warn her that Homer and Bart are quite difficult to corral.
Even so, Lisa tries to get the two involved with chores and the like, but neither one really goes with it. In fact, most of the time the two just pig out and either eat or sleep, and hardly anything else. Being forced to clean up after them and dealing with their shenanigans, Lisa begins to unravel. One night, as Homer and Bart are watching I Love Lucy reruns on TV rather loudly, Lisa is visited by the ghost of Lucy (the character, I guess?), who gives Lisa an idea to get back at the two.
Mixing green poster paint together with some oats, Lisa paints the mixture onto the two while they're sleeping. The next morning, after the two freak out over their new skin marks, Lisa has her doctor program diagnose them with leprosy. Trying to teach them that by doing chores and being clean that they can be cured, Lisa seems thrilled with the results. However, both Homer and Bart are still unwilling to work. Somehow recalling that Jesus can cure lepers, but also well aware that they aren't on good terms with Jesus, the two contact the next best thing: Ned Flanders.
Marge's leg has healed and she returns home to a panicked Lisa, who has lost Homer and Bart. They ask around, and find Ned who tells them that he shipped them off to a leper colony in Hawaii for treatment. Upon going to Hawaii, Lisa tries to apologize to the two for tricking them, but they've learned that the didn't really have leprosy and that the free trip to Hawaii more than makes up for it - even though the two guys have to undergo painful electrotherapy for their supposed leprosy.
Quick Review
This episode is a wonderful surprise hidden way down in Season 11. There are a lot of jokes that just work here. The ski trip in the first act had several great moments, including "stupid sexy Flanders". The middle act had its moments too, and the last act with the leprosy was great as well, particularly the "Virtual Doctor" bit as well as the Ned and Maude's panicked crisis with the leper Homer and Bart. At this point, I think its safe to say this is the best episode of Season 11 and is definitely one of the best episodes in Mike Scully's four-season run.
Final Score: 10
