...why wasn't one of them operating the brakes? |
Homer escapes death yet again after a series of near-fatal accidents while cleaning the garage. Marge worries about Homer and has him attempt to get life insurance. However, because of Homer's various health ailments and his tendencies to get injured, he is considered un-insurable. Marge's worries only worsen when she starts believing that if Homer dies the rest of the family will be unable to survive financially. To curb the idea, Marge begins penny-pinching everything she can, getting 'foods' and 'drinks' that are below budget level. Homer quickly grows weary of this, especially since he's not even allowed to buy beer at Moe's, and gets into an argument with Marge over money. Still upset afterward, a rather defiant Homer takes all the money Marge had saved up and spends it on a loaded mobile home. The act angers Marge so much she refuses to talk to Homer and the two stay away in their separate homes, vying for the kids' attention every now and then.
Some point later, Homer comes across another RV owner, and eventually Homer agrees to let him and several others hang out in his backyard. Marge quickly gets annoyed by all of this, and after a short time, pulls the plug on their efforts, literally, by preventing them from leeching electricity from the house. After the disappointed group of RV owners leave, Homer and Marge get into another argument, this one much worse than the last. Bart and Lisa can't deal with it anymore and escape to Homer's RV where they decide that, if the RV is the reason for their differences, then they'll just return the RV to patch things up.
Homer and Marge soon learn what happened (thanks to a note Bart and Lisa left them), and quickly give chase. It doesn't take long for them to find a large, out-of-control RV, and they try to get Bart and Lisa to stop, but they won't until their parents make up with a good kiss. They do so, but the kids are unable to stop the RV and end up running it off a cliff, crashing it ontop of a Turkish freighter. Marge is able to stop the freighter from leaving by offering the Turks all the mushroom soup she bought while penny pinching. The Turks agree, and soon there's a party featuring the Turks and the Simpsons, and though the RV is so ruined it can't be returned, Marge doesn't seem to mind (because the Turks put hashish in her food to calm her down.
Quick Review
This wasn't that great of an episode, one that spent perhaps too much time keeping Homer and Marge at odds with one another than making sure the premise remained humorous. I did like the kids getting involved this time around, but there really wasn't enough humor to salvage the episode.
Final Score: 6.5
