How I Spent My Strummer Vacation (S14, E02-293)

These guys certainly put the "Fantasy" in "Rock 'n Roll Fantasy Camp".
Plot Summary
Moe turns down a beer for Homer because Homer has no money.  Vengeful, Homer decides to get buzzed in other ways.  He goes back to Moe to show him he got intoxicated just fine, but Moe lets Homer have a free beer anyway after Lenny and Carl chide Moe for turning down Homer earlier.  With the one beer, Homer is pretty wasted and Moe is forced to call a taxi for Homer.  The next afternoon, Homer is refreshed and he and his family sit down to watch TV.  A new show is airing: Taxicab Confessions, a show which records people talking about crap while being recorded unknowingly.  Sure enough, Homer appears on the show from his taxi ride the previous night.  He starts off by praising the members of his family, but then goes on a tangent on how his family has prevented him from achieving his dream of becoming a rock star (or a Playboy photographer).  Homer's family, watching this with him, get extremely angry at Homer and they all leave the room in disgust.

The next day after work, Homer is cut off by Marge and the kids, and they force him to go 'on a ride'.  Homer fears the worst after what happened the night before, but they soon reveal that they're taking him to the Rolling Stones Rock 'n Roll Fantasy Camp.  It seems they realize that Homer has made many sacrifices for the family and its time he got something back.  Homer is ecstatic and rushes right in to fulfill his dream.  The weeklong camp, hosted by Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and like five others, is pleasure incarnate for Homer, who rocks hard the entire time, garnering praise from the rock stars.  Alas, all good things must come to an end, and the camp eventually reaches its conclusion, devastating Homer.

Homer refuses to let his dream die, and is able to convince Mick Jagger to have Homer be part of a concert he and the others will be doing at Springfield.  Homer is thrilled and is able to get 40 guest seats for his family and friends to see him rock out.  However, at the concert, Homer learns that he is only an honorary roadie, and that is only task is to go up to the microphone and mutter 'test' a few times.  A saddened Homer does so, but upon seeing the people in the crowd as well as his family lose faith in him, Homer decides to take the opportunity to rock anyway.  He draws the ire of Mick and the others, and their resulting attack on Homer causes some kind of destruction.  Afterward, the rock stars offer Homer an actual chance at rocking out at a benefit concert for the people that were just hurt, but Homer turns them down as he is more than willing to be a family man now.

Quick Review
Although Mike Scully's time as showrunner ended early in Season 13, this episode is the final episode credited to him as both writer and showrunner.  Sad to say, its a rather terrible end to his run.

I've never been fond of episodes where Homer explores his 'wild side', as it were.  Homerpalooza was my least favorite Season 7 episode, and D'oh-in in the Wind was my least favorite Season 10 episode besides Simpsons Bible Stories.  This episode fared even worse than those two, as the guest stars, of which there were many, never did anything particularly funny.  Aside from them, the rest of the episode isn't much better, and I don't doubt that this episode will be one of my least favorites of this season as well.

Final Score: 5.9
